1973 Elden Formula Ford Frame #63-73 -- Photo Page Ten

I designed and built the wing myself, with fabrication help from Mike Ready. I had a conversation with another autocrosser who had just built a wing for his car. He used an aircraft engineer and software to help design his. I told him mine was done by TLAR Engineering. I didn't tell him TLAR meant "That Looks About Right."

As I said, Portland weather provided plenty of liquid. Just look at that wing work! Rooster tail heaven -- who needs a hydroplane and a river? This wing had several added, but unintend features. First, it was an excellent "fender" for all the water coming off the front tires, and dumped the water right into the cockpit. Second, it had a release pin on the back mount and hinges on the front so I could swing it up to enable me to get into and out of the car more easily, and that added feature had an added feature of its own -- it dumped rivers of water right into my lap when the wing was flipped up! Cool? Ha!
