1973 Elden Formula Ford Frame #63-73 -- Photo Page Five

This model Elden had the radiator mounted out front. When the previous owner converted to the sports racing body, he had to modify the front suspension pickup points, and move the radiator to the right side ahead of the rear wheels so the body would fit. When I got the car, the radiator would not fit in front, plus the original nose cone was broken. I had to make a new nose for the car, and I mounted the radiator at the back above the transaxle. Woodburn Drag Strip, April 1990.

I made a "plug" from styrofoam and hand-laid a fiberglass nose for the car. It was a "quick-and-dirty" fix, with intent to make a better one later. I used cartoons from a newspaper under the epoxy as a "joke" so it became the "cartoon" nose. It became the "trademark" of the car, and I got berated by my "friends" for replacing it later. Also, the rear-mounted radiator sticks out like a sore thumb.
